When I walked into Reboot Arcade Bar for the first time neon lights and melodic sounds of the classic arcade games took me back to a simpler time, a time when I had no worries, just a pocket full of quarters. I can boast that Reboot definitely has a nostalgic feeling to it, with the neon lighting and the 80’s music playing in the background. The Arcade Bar, being less than a year old, has been somewhat of an enigma to me personally. I was very curious about this place when I first saw the sign above the plate glass windows on Liberty Street in downtown WS, but what I did know was the place looked very cool. Reboot, being one of the newer locations in downtown WS, has established a large following already, being packed almost to capacity multiple days of the week. Ian Purdy, the owner of Reboot, touted “it’s like Childhood with Beer”, speaking on 180 classic arcade games and a full service bar. Purdy, who is an avid game collector, said his love for classic arcade games is what lead him to open up the Arcade Bar. There is something for everyone at this place with the added pinball machines and awesome craft cocktails. During my visit I had one of the crowd favorites, the “ The Pop-A-Smurf” which is vodka, blue curacao, lime juice, sour mix, sprite and pop rocks, which is not only a delicious but a spectacular looking drink too. The bar steps back into the 80’s with cocktails inspired by pop culture like the “Dark Side” and the “Ecto-cooler”. The bar also has a selection of craft beers from local breweries as well as domestic drafts and shooters. Reboot also participates in the Downtown Gallery Hop, which is the first Friday of every month, by featuring a different artist each month, displaying arcade inspired artwork. They also have a DJ once a month spinning everything from the 80’s including classic hip hop and rap. In celebration of their one year anniversary, on June 1st, Reboot will have a blowout street bash featuring music by DJSK spinning classic 80’s music, art from Eric Trundy and much more! The celebration starts at 6 pm.
Reboot Arcade Bar has weekly tournaments every Sunday at 1pm with a different game each week. They also have nights that offer free games like skeeball Tuesday, free pinball Wednesday and free arcade Thursday. Be sure to check their listing for times and details.
