RiverRun International Film Festival 20th anniversary

RiverRun International Film Festival 20th anniversary

Cinema takes center stage in the Triad when the RiverRun International Film Festival hits screens April 19-29 featuring more than 160 films from over 40 countries.  Screenings will take place in Winston-Salem and Greensboro. Additionally, there are special events, educational panels and a variety of free activities sure to please Triad audiences!
This year, even more than in years past, the Festival includes a superb selection of free kid-and family-friendly films and activities including the very popular Saturday Morning Cartoons, Family Fun Night at Bailey Park, and its ever-expanding Films with Class programming. These films and activities headline an array of family fun during the 11-day Festival and beyond.
For RiverRun’s third annual Family Day, April 21 at 1:00pm, Peppercorn Theatre at Kaleideum will present What Goes Up…  a short stage play for ages 4 and up in which two architects compete with one another to find out who can build the sturdiest structure! Watch as they test their creations and help them decide which building can stand up to the challenge and which building must come down. Then RiverRun will present a collection of short films made by UNCSA School of Film making students that are tailor-made for younger audiences. This is a FREE event, no ticket required!
RiverRun’s opening night features both narrative and documentary films on April 19.  AMERICAN ANIMALS, a true story about a rare book heist, is the opening narrative feature.  Though set in Kentucky, this inventive film was shot entirely in North Carolina. The opening night documentary film is SAMMY DAVIS JR.: I’VE GOTTA BE ME, a look at the life and career of one of the most beloved entertainers of the 20th Century. The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Samuel D. Pollard.

The Festival will close on April 29 with HEARTS BEAT LOUD, the triumphant latest feature directed by UNCSA alum Brett Haley (I’ll See You in My Dreams, The Hero). The film features fantastic performances from Nick Offerman, Ted Danson, Toni Collette, Blythe Danner and newcomer Kiersey Clemons.
“RiverRun is pleased to mark its 20th anniversary with one of the strongest lineups of films and best events we have ever assembled,” stated RiverRun Executive Director Rob Davis. “The positive response from our audiences and filmmakers continues to be an immense source of inspiration to the entire RiverRun team.”
